We apply nail hardeners to our nails to make them longer. These products also prevent the nails from breakage and also protect them from breakage. It may be used for brittle nails a week before a manicure. A few types of these are available in the markets that work differently.
Types of nail hardeners
One of the type is quite similar to nail polish which when applied strengthens the nails by acting as a protective shield. Neither does it penetrate the nail or change it physically.
Formaldehyde or calcium is the ingredients of the second type of hardener. It goes deep into the nail’s molecular structure. As it affects the keratin of the nail it becomes tough. But continuous use of formaldehyde may cause a crack in the nail. So it is always advised to use it sparingly. Nail Hardeners are available in bottles very similar to nail polish and found in the nail care section of most drugstores. Some of them even contain additional ingredients that nourish nails and helps in growth. But if one takes proper care of the nails it is not at all necessary to use nail hardeners.
It should be kept in mind that over use of nail hardeners may damage the nails. It makes the nail split and brittle. Thus the overuse of such products should be avoided for the betterment of nails. Having a balanced diet full of protein and calcium is the best option to make the nails harder.
