Brief History of Pilates Yoga

in Health and Treatment

As a matter of fact, Pilates yoga is only termed together but they have no such connection and approach wise they are totally different. Only the similarity that one can point to is their stress on controlling breathing and mental focus at the time of exercising. To establish a link between these two it can be said that Pilates is yoga with movement and machinery. George Pilate used to stay very sick in his childhood days. With regular and strict exercise regimen he overcame that phase of his life. In the year 1926, he opened an exercise center in New York. As time went on, this fit technique gained more and more popularity.

What Pilate tried to establish is that it is very important to maintain correct posture at the time of exercising. By the help of this the stomach and back muscles that supports the spine develop a good reflex action. At first only springs were used but as time went on, more advanced machines came into being. These are a combination of pulleys, weights and springs. Cadillac, Reformer and Wunda are three pieces of tools that are highly essential in performing Pilates.

Similarities and Distinction between Pilates and Yoga

These two forms of exercises have various differences between them. They are as follows:

  • The movements that we get to see in yoga are more towards stretching and flexibility whereas Pilates induces the core strength within us.
  • The later is used by those that want to build up muscles. The degrees of focus involved between the two also vary.
  • Mental preparation and focusing is what we need during yoga which is not that necessary for the other one which is based on physical movements.
  • Although there are a number of variations between the two forms they also have certain similarities.
  • No matter what the degree needs to be but in both of these mental concentration is an essential factor.
  • Both of these relaxes you and help in shedding off all your tensions. If you are having a very strained work schedule then practicing any one of these can help you out both mentally and physically.
  • The workout routines are stretch oriented and so many of the postures used in both Pilates and yoga are similar to each other.

If you stop calculating the differences and similarities and just concentrate on their forms then we will find that these are really effective methods. Following these forms regularly can keep one fit and out of stress.
